HAIR LOSS
For both males and females, the thinning or loss of hair can cause significant emotional distress and affect self-confidence.
Hair loss is often due to a mixture of hormonal changes and a genetic predisposition.
Androgenetic alopecia is the most common type of diffuse hair thinning in males and females. Male and Female pattern hair loss differ slightly with female having generally less severe hair loss than males.

It is due to a combination of hormones or androgens and a genetic predisposition. In males it often presents as a receding hairline and hair loss on the top and front of the head. In females the hair on the mid frontal area of the scalp is thin, but less severe than in males.

The hair loss is caused by a genetic sensitivity to the effects of a hormone called DHT. This hormone is believed to shorten the growth or anagen phase of hair growth significantly. The hair follicles also ‘miniaturise’ which in turn produces fewer and finer hairs.
